Pretty Little Liars

Breaking Down the Previews for the Pretty Little Liars Season 3 Summer Finale

It always amazes us how much we can learn about an upcoming episode of Pretty Little Liars just by breaking down the previews. We took a closer look at both the US and Canadian previews of the highly anticipated Season 3 summer finale (Season 3, Episode 12: “The Lady Killer”, airing August 28) to get a grip on all the excitement that’s in store.

Here’s what we spotted.

Hanna will make a “dumb blonde” joke. Sitting down with the rest of the Liars in the Rosewood High courtyard, Hanna (Ashley Benson) announces, “Things just went from worse to worser.” This looks like one of those scenes that come early in an episode, when nothing super-scary has happened yet.

Hanna also makes a smart observation. Speaking to one or more of the Liars, Hanna says, “Do you remember what Ali[son (Sasha Pieterse)] said about secrets keeping us close? She was wrong. They tear us apart.”

Aria, Spencer, and Hanna dress in black and head out in the dark. The three Liars (minus Emily [Shay Mitchell]) dress like they’re heading to a funeral and drive to what we guess is the site of Alison’s dug-up grave, where they first went in the Season 3 premiere (Season 3, Episode 1: “It Happened ‘That Night’”). Aria (Lucy Hale) asks, “What do we do now?” and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) answers, “We wait for ‘A’.”

Mona escapes from Radley in plain sight. Remember that shot of Mona (Janel Parrish) dressed in a nurse’s uniform? Well, watching the Canadian promo more closely, it looks like Mona pretends to be a nurse in order to walk right out the doors, past security, and then out of the gates of Radley Sanitarium.

Nate climbs into Emily’s room at night? We see a shot of Nate, smiling, as he appears to enter someone’s window in the middle of the night. Then, we see his hands placing Emily’s covers over her shoulders as she sleeps. Why would Nate sneak into Emily’s room?

Emily is in danger. Emily, covered in dirt, is seen cowering on some kind of rooftop, or on top of a never-before-seen structure resembling a windmill. Another person, wearing combat boots (Paige [Lindsey Shaw]?) approaches her in a threatening way.

Garrett is smiling. We see a quick shot of Garrett (Yani Gellman), in a suit, smiling over his shoulder. Since Spencer admits, “I’m pretty sure that Garrett did not kill Maya,” does that mean that Garrett’s case is thrown out and he’s a free man?

We get a glimpse of “A”’s new lair. The Halloween baby monster mask hangs on a lampshade, and more photos of the Liars are pinned to the walls. There appears to be a sketch of the aforementioned building, or it could be of Radley Sanitarium, or Rosewood High.

Caleb packs a backpack full of surveillance gear? We see Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) in Hanna’s bedroom alone, during the day, and it looks like he’s putting black binoculars and another piece of black equipment into his backpack.

“A” gives Emily instructions via rotary phone. Emily’s phone (vintage!) rings in the middle of the night, and she hears someone on a voice changer telling her, “You have one minute. Get out.” Could this be “A”? And where is she sleeping?

Aria opens Ezra’s door when Maggie stops by. Awkward! Considering Aria pretended to be a new teacher the last time they met, imagine Maggie’s surprise to find out that Aria is actually a high schooler who happens to be Ezra’s girlfriend.

Tell us if you spotted anything we didn’t!
