Is Tyra Banks Misleading People About Going to Harvard Business School?
One of the main reasons America's Next Top Model Cycle 19 is themed around college students is because creator/host Tyra Banks recently graduated from Harvard Business School.
But, to Jezebel, Tyra is misleading people about her education because she wasn't enrolled in Harvard's famed M.B.A. program — which some people might just assume when she repeats “Harvard Business School.” What she took was a non-degree-granting certificate course called the Owner/President Management Program.
According to Jezebel, Harvard’s OPM has "no formal educational requirements" and classes don't count toward any university degree or qualification. "It's taught in three three-week units and currently costs clients $33,000 per unit," the site explained. "The application form does not have a space for applicants to list their GMAT scores — it doesn't require any, because it's not a graduate program — but it does ask about their annual compensation. The OPM course is offered by Harvard Business School's open-enrollment extension school, and the head of the OPM program told the Harvard Crimson it is 'very different from a full-time M.B.A. degree program.'”
To Jezebel, taking the OPM course and calling it "going to Harvard Business School” is “a little like enrolling in a night-time pottery extension class and saying you are 'going to art school.'"
What do you think? It's not like Tyra’s been hiding her status in the OPM program. Back in February, when Tyra was getting set to graduate, it was openly in the news that she was involved in that part of Harvard's school. In fact, if there's any misunderstanding out there, it's probably more media related. "Tyra Banks is a Harvard Business School graduate!" makes a great headline, and it's true, but if you don't read the story for details it's not Tyra's fault if you don't realize there's a difference between programs. When she's asked about Harvard, she's often the one explaining that it's the OPM program. That's what she did with Access Hollywood, when they asked about Harvard. She also went into detail about the OPM program in a NewFront panel.
So is this just hater talk or do you think that Tyra has been leading people to believe she went through the M.B.A. program?
