Vampire Diaries Speculation: How Will Damon React to the New Elena?
After such a game-changing finale, things are about to be completely different in Mystic Falls. Season 4 of The Vampire Diaries will pick up right where it left off, with everyone dealing with the events of the Season 3 finale. We’ve already speculated about how Bonnie (Kat Graham) will react toElena’s (Nina Dobrev) transformation, and now it’sDamon’s (Ian Somerhalder) turn.
Poor D-Town. Not only did Elena tell him she chose his brother,Stefan (Paul Wesley), over him, he had to spend several hours thinking the woman he loved was dead afterAlaric (Matt Davis) expired in his arms. (Side note: That Cutting Crew song really should have been called, “I Just Expired in Your Arms Tonight.”)
Luckily, Elena had some of the elder Salvatore’sblood running through her veins and is now a vampire. First, Damon will probably just be relieved Elena is getting a second chance at life. But he knows how difficult the loss of a human life is as well as anyone, so we definitely expect a lot of empathy from him on that point. And Elena is going togrieve over a future she’ll never have. Once she comes to terms with that, however, it sounds like Damon is eager for her to dive right in and start doing some serious damage. To people.
“In his mind, there’s an inevitability to being a vampire that we should just get to and get past. [It's] the equivalent of kicking Elena out of the bird’s nest and letting her fall and see if she can fly,” Julie Plec tellsEntertainment Weekly. Naturally, he and Stefan don’t see eye to eye. “Stefan wants to protect her from that at all costs, and Damon is saying, 'It's going to happen' you may as well rip the Band-Aid off and let it bleed,” said Julie in an interview withTV Guide.
Damon thinks it’s “inevitable” that Elena will kill a human, so she might as well get it over with. There’s likely to be some pushback from the new vamp on this point — she’s stubborn and has never approved of the human blood habit. However, Damon can be pretty persuasive, so despite the news ofa zebra on set (possibly Elena's first vamp meal?), we think she’ll eventually see things his way. That means feeding on — though hopefully not killing — someone.
But just because Damon’s all for Elena embracing her vampirism, it doesn’t mean he’s not angry it happened in the first place.Matt’s (Zach Roerig)on his list because the QB was driving Miss Elena when the accident happened. But Damon is often as quick to forgive as he is to get angry, so hopefully Matt can persuade him thatRebekah (Claire Holt) is a better target. After all, Rebekah can heal, while Matt lacks health insurance.
Some good may come of Elena’s new supernatural state for Damon. She’sgoing to remember the time he told her loved her then compelled her to forget. That exchange could be really awkward — or really emotional. For Elena, either way, it willdefinitely be heightened.
