Modern Family Creator Offers Ann Romney a Role — Under One Condition

Ann Romney, come on down... the aisle!

Modern Family occupies an odd space in the TV landscape. It's a show that embraces a very Modern America, featuring an interracial and a gay couple as part of a happy, stable family. By playing up diversity and family values, it manages to appeal to people on both sides of the aisle.

Modern Family's latest big-name conservative fan is none other than First Lady hopeful Ann Romney, who recently revealed to ET that Modern Family is her favorite show.

Show creator Steve Levitan took note of Ann's comment, and didn't miss his chance to make a pointed remark about civil rights.

"Thrilled Ann Romney says ModFam is her favorite show," he tweeted. "We'll offer her the role of officiant at Mitch & Cam's wedding. As soon as it's legal."

This is, of course, a subtle reference to Mitt Romney's firm anti-gay marriage stance, which Steve clearly disagrees with.

We can't help but be reminded of the time The Wire creator David Simon told the US Attorney General — a fan of the canceled, socially conscientious show — that he would happily produce another season if the Attorney General would just reconsider the War on Drugs.

We enjoy it when our favorite entertainers make their voices heard, especially when they're handed a perfect opportunity.

But what do you think: Do you like it when TV creators take a political stand, or should they stick to writing good stories?
