"I lived in New York City for three years, I know what New York is like, and I'm going to downtown L.A, and I'm looking around and going, [high-pitched] 'I didn't know this was here! I didn't know you could live in a loft this size! Look at this whole street, this whole street looks just like … !'”
“I'm really surprised — listen to how high my voice is going — but I was very surprised how 'New York' sections of downtown L.A. actually do look. I was very surprised."
We are surprised, too! Those street scenes are very convincing, so kudos to the crew for making La La Land look so much like the Big Apple.
The only downside of filming in L.A.? Wearing coats in the springtime when it's 70 degrees out.
“It’s still cold in New York, but it’s warm here, " Seamus Dever told theL.A. Examiner. "It’s like we’re wearing these big overcoats and we’re like ‘When can we take these off? Can we roll down the windows or something?’”
