American Idol

Phillip Phillips Jokes About Kidney Pain on Live! with Kelly and Michael (VIDEO)

American Idol winner Phillip Phillips was a featured guest on the inaugural episode for Live! With Kelly and Michael (with brand new co-host Michael Strahan), and he even joked about using his kidney condition as an excuse to get out of doings things on the show!

Phillip gave a health update following his kidney operation from earlier in the summer, saying, “I’m doing good. You know, just taking it easy when I can and resting but also staying very busy, but it’s kinda what I signed up for but everything’s going well.”

He admitted that it was a tough road to get where he’s at with his post-Idol acclaim and that it took some serious discipline on his part to make it through. “I would always save up my energy for the next week,” he recalled.

And did he ever feel tempted to use his health problems to get out of doing things?

“Sometimes I would just use the excuse ‘cause I didn’t want to go do anything,” he quipped before adding, “Nah, I’m just kidding! But you know I would just save all my energy up for that Tuesday or Wednesday, but after that I was just done.”

He also confessed that if any of his Season 11 co-competitors had caught a communicable disease during the show it could’ve been bad news for P2, who was already having a rough time with his recurrent kidney stones. “Now, since I’m doing better I think it would be okay, during the show though it would have been pretty rough so I’m glad no one got sick.”

We are too, P2!
