Randy Jackson Unhappy About Switch to American Idol Mentoring Role: Report
When Season 12 of American Idol launches, there might be four judges instead of three seated front and center, and Randy Jackson may or may not be one of them.
The New York Post reports that Randy was less than pleased when producers approached him about taking a mentoring role rather than returning for another year as a judge.
“Not surprisingly, Randy wasn’t too happy about that and tried to negotiate a bigger role,” a source said.
Nothing’s been officially announced yet because execs are reportedly still trying to fill out the judge’s panel.
According to an insider, if showrunners aren’t able to reel in a well-known male judge with experience in the R&B world, Randy could be back in.
A few artists matching that description have come up in the Idol speculation debate, including Kanye West, Diddy, Snoop Dogg, and Pharrell Williams. But so far, no deals have been made with anyone.
After all of the buzz suggesting he’ll be taking his “Yo, Dawg” antics elsewhere, will Randy still return for a twelfth year as judge after all? We’ll see!
