Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the hot pro at the In Touch Icons & Idols party on September 6, and he gave us the scoop on the competition, the upcoming season, and his new girl.
Wetpaint Entertainment: How are rehearsals going with Kirstie Alley? Maksim Chmerkovskiy: They’re going great. She’s getting stronger, having fun. Honestly, you would get nervous at certain stages but I don’t because I know we’ve already been here. I was nervous [during our last season together] and somehow she pulled it together so I’m just letting her do it.
Think she can win? I mean, last time it was a lot harder and she was a lot less prepared and we got second [laughs] so I don’t know.
What are Kirstie’s strengths and weaknesses? Well, her strength is the fact that she knows what this is all about. She’s not being thrown in sink or swim. She’s been in this pool, so to speak, and she’s come out on top. The weakness is that it’s Kirstie Alley. [Laughs] You never know what the hell is going to happen next. I buckled up. I don’t know if you guys are all buckled up but it’s going to be a ride!
Is everybody strong this season? It’s an All-Star cast so you have most of the winners, runners-up, people who were supposed to make the final but didn’t so it’s obviously an All-Star cast for a reason.
How did you spend your summer? I worked a lot, I tried to spend time at home but something would always take me somewhere and I’m blessed. It’s an amazing opportunity. I’m carpe diem every day.
What’s it like having your brother Val on DWTS? It’s amazing. In Kelly [Monaco], he has somebody he’s perfectly connected with and at the same time has all the potential to do what he sees in a dancer. He’s having a blast so I’m just very happy that he gets to showcase his talent.
You’re here with Peta. Are you coming out as a couple? I think it’s already been announced, chewed over. Um, I like the way things are going. I’m not into this whole public announcements and whatever. Certain things are left to be private, but yeah.
