Grey’s Anatomy Creator Shonda Rhimes Sells New Crime Drama to NBC: Report

Things are up and running in Shondaland! The Hollywood Reporter reports that Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes recently sold a new concept to NBC, and this time she’s taking on an FBI crime drama.

The drama, titled Under the Gun, will be written by Grey’s writer Peter Nowalk and produced by Rhimes and her producing partner Betsy Beers.

Under the Gun is about a woman named Erin Kain who works for the FBI and uses her personal experience to think like the criminals and crack the case. All the while, Erin is trying to come to terms with an event from her past that tore her family apart. Using her job as an outlet for her anguish? That sounds like it’s right up Shonda’s alley.

The show marks Shonda’s first sale of the 2012-13 season. And just when you thought she was out of ideas ...

What are your thoughts? Are you excited for Shonda and Peter to take on a new genre with a crime drama? Most importantly, are you intrigued enough to watch?

Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 will premiere on Thursday, September 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
