Pretty Little Liars

Our 5 Biggest Questions About Jenna on Pretty Little Liars

Jenna may have been missing from the Pretty Little Liars Season 3 summer finale (Season 3, Episode 12: “The Lady Killer”), but even when she leaves Rosewood, her presence is strongly felt. Now that her stepbrother Toby (Keegan Allen) has been revealed to be on the “A” team, we have more burning questions about her than ever.

Here are 5 of our biggest Jenna puzzlers.

Is Jenna on the “A” team or not?
First, we should define the “A” team in the Season 3 context. We think the “A” team has been working together since the days of Mona (Janel Parrish) being “A,” so, essentially, since the beginning of the show. Various team members have most likely been recruited over time, but we have a feeling one person is the team’s leader, or the one with the most control over the others.

So how does Jenna fit in? We know she drove Emily (Shay Mitchell) around the night Em was drugged, kidnapped, and left at Alison’s (Sasha Pieterse) dug-up grave to take the blame. Plus, Jenna has a few very good reasons to be on the “A” team, which we’ve analyzed here. But when Jenna went to meet an unknown person in a park on the Season 2 finale (Season 2, Episode 25: “UnmAsked”), it seemed like that person was the one calling the shots. So could Jenna just be another pawn on the team?

How long has she been able to see?
The first time we learned that Jenna could see, even though she was still pretending to be blind, was towards the end of Season 2, when she swatted (and killed) a fly on her mirror. Sneaky girl, and also very clever. As a secret observer of everything that happened in Rosewood, Jenna could find out secrets about her enemies, and see what people really thought of her because it was always written on their faces.

We know she was at least still pretending to be blind around Noel (Brant Daugherty) on the night of the masquerade ball (thanks to Noel’s surveillance footage), when Maya (Bianca Lawson) was murdered by her stalker Lyndon, but she definitely didn’t have to pretend earlier that day with the unknown person in the park. While the obvious explanation is that Jenna's surgery worked, we have to wonder if Jenna could have been faking her blindness for even longer, maybe even since the accident. Was she ever really blind?

Is she still in love with Toby? If not, who does she really love?
According to Alison, Jenna and Toby were involved in a sexual relationship before moving to Rosewood. Toby says that his tattoo commemorates the day he was finally free from Jenna’s grip. But Jenna still seemed to rely on Toby for her everyday needs, and they were alone all the time in the same house. Jenna has since dated Garrett (Yani Gellman) and Noel, but she seemed equally devoted to both at times. Who really has Jenna’s heart?

What is her connection to the NAT club?
Since Jenna is obviously younger than the original NAT club founders (Jason [Drew Van Acker], Ian [Ryan Merriman], Garrett), we have to wonder how she wound up with them and Melissa(Torrey DeVitto), in Alison’s room, on the night Alison disappeared. She could have just been there because she was dating Garrett, but Alison has told the Liars that she knew about secret tapes that proved Jenna was hooking up with Toby. Could Jenna have been just as angry about Ali’s knowledge of NAT as the club members? We also find it interesting that Jenna and Noel, whose brother is the same age as the NAT guys, eventually wound up together, when both have links to that older crowd.

Why was Melissa told to “distract Jenna” during the masquerade ball?
There are a few possibilities here. Melissa and Jenna might both be on the “A” team, along with Lucas. In that case, Melissa’s convoluted Black Swan story could just be part of a bigger finger-pointing scheme to make it seem like they’re not in cahoots. But what if Jenna’s story, about being someone’s target (which is how she explains pretending to be blind) is the truth, and someone really did want to keep her distracted that night?
