Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 Premiere: What Happens on “Going, Going, Gone”?

In just over two weeks, we’ll finally get to see our favorite doctors again on the Grey's Anatomy Season 9 premiere (Season 9, Episode 1: "Going, Going, Gone"). But what exactly will happen during the episode?

ABC released an official synopsis of the premiere, which showrunner Shonda Rhimes has said will jump forward in time from the Season 8 finale (Season 8, Episode 24, "Flight"). “We are ahead enough in time where we see the outcome of lots of things,” Shonda said in July. We will also see the extent of Mark’s (Eric Dane) departure from Seattle Grace-Mercy West.

According to ABC’s press release, the doctors will be “faced with the aftermath of last season’s plane crash. As they try to move on with their lives, they must learn to adapt to the changes, cope with their losses and move forward with their relationships and careers.”

Those changes will most likely include Lexie’s (Chyler Leigh) death, Mark’s departure, Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) hand injury, Arizona’s (Jessica Capshaw) still-unknown injuries, and for Cristina (Sandra Oh), her decision to leave Owen (Kevin McKidd) behind in Seattle as she pursues her career.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 will premiere on Thursday, September 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
