Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Glee newbie Becca Tobin at FOX’s Fall Eco-Casino party on September 10, and the cheerful actress spoke exclusively to us about what it’s like to be the new bitch at McKinley.
Even though Kitty is out to stealBrittany’s (Heather Morris) spot as head cheerleader, Becca and Heather are actually best of pals on set. Becca reveals their unexpected connection, and what part of working with Heather she finds totally “intimidating.”
Your character Kitty is crazy mean. Are you loving it? I’m loving it. Everybody loves playing the mean girl and if they say they don’t, they’re lying.
Are we going to see a soft heart underneath? Eventually the layers are going to peel back and we’ll see some other colors, but she’s going to hit you hard with that…spice.
So do you think she’s more Quinn(Dianna Agron) or Santana(Naya Rivera)? I think there’s a little bit of both, and then something else. It’s a really great character that they’ve developed and I’m so honored to be playing it. She’s great.
Do you have a dance background? I do. I come from the Broadway world, so for the last eight years I’ve been in New York doing that. This is new, you know?
I heard that you and Heather get along really well. We do! We have some friends in common, through the dance world and there’s something about dancers. You just have this understanding and we’re the same breed, I guess.
What’s it been like to work with her? It’s amazing. Nobody dances like her. She’s a force, and to dance next to her is so intimidating but it’s great.
Is there anything you can say about Kitty’s arcs this season? I think we’re getting there. I’ve been receiving some scripts and I’m excited to see where the character’s going. She’s got some layers, and we’re slowly getting them.
Are you having a blast? I don’t even know what word I would use, but blast is pretty close. It’s just been a whirlwind and amazing, and I can’t believe I’m here.
