Glee Season 4: Blake Jenner of The Glee Project Has His First Day on Set!

As much as we loved Thursday’s Glee Season 4 premiere, a part of us just wants to hop in a time machine and fast forward all the way to Season 4, Episode 5 — because that’s when Glee Project winner Blake Jenner will be making his big debut!

Blake is set to play a new character named Ryder, who comes to McKinley and will share a number of scenes with Finn (Cory Monteith). On Thursday, September 13, just hours after Glee’s Season 4 premiere had finished airing, Glee casting director Robert Ulrich announced on Twitter that this had also been Blake’s first official day of filming.

A little after 11pm, the Glee Project mentor tweeted, “@Blake_Jenner filmed his first day on GLEE today! He's going to be AMAZING!

Fellow Glee newbie Melissa Benoist (Marley) gave a bit of insight on what Blake was up to, tweeting, “GLEEKS! @becbecbobec @jacobartist@blake_jenner and I were on set when the first episode aired-and the support from everyone is INCREDIBLE.

So Kitty (Becca Tobin) the cheerleader, Jake (Jacob Artist) the rebel and Marley the choir kid are all three filming a scene with Ryder the new jock. Interesting combination. Any theories on what they could be up to?

Whatever it was, it appears that work ended pretty late. At 1:18 am, Blake tweeted, “I had a really fun day on set today, everyone is so awesome and kind! #grateful

We’re stoked at the chance to see Blake on Glee for the first time, but we’re curious about when all his scenes with Finn are supposed to take place. Cory Monteith tweeted that Thursday was his first day filming the new action movie McCanick. Last we heard,McCanick is filming in Philly, while Glee shoots in L.A. — so it’s possible that those Finn and Ryder scenes might not happen right away.

Oh well, no matter. Blake still gets seven episodes of Glee, so there will be plenty of chances for him to work with Cory in the future. And, if his stint as Ryder is well-received, we’re hoping that Glee will decide to keep him on even longer than that!
