Magic Mike 2 Details: Channing Tatum May Direct Stripper Road Movie
As long as Channing Tatum appears in Magic Mike 2 — and does more shirtless dances — he can do whatever else he'd like.
Steven Soderbergh directed the first Magic Mike, but he reportedly wants to retire. Channing talked to the French site AlloCine, saying he might help direct the film himself, along with writer and producing partner Reid Carolin. Channing was a producer on MM1, but if he does direct MM2 it would mark his directorial debut.
"We will undoubtedly make the Broadway version first," Channing said (via Ace Showbiz). "Gregory Jacobs [assistant director to Soderbergh] can make the film or ... Reid Carolin and me, but we don't know."
Carolin said they have a story already, just a "ridiculous and fun" road movie plot, where a bunch of strippers get back together. "It's more of a broad comedy. I don't know whether it will happen or not."
Sounds good so far! Honestly they don't need to focus too much on the plot. That's probably not going to be the key selling point.
