Which Former Voice Finalist Inspired Season 3 Contestant Nicole Nelson to Audition?
Last night on The Voice Season 3, we were introduced to the lovely Nicole Nelson, a resident of an artistic community in Vermont who enjoys living an organic lifestyle. As the NBC camera crews toured Nicole’s home, one important element was definitely missing — a television.
So how did the 34-year-old singer, originally from New York, learn about one of America’s top music reality competition shows? The Team Adam contestant first caught wind of our favorite show when her close high school friend Jermaine Paul was on the show last year!
Yes, that Jermaine Paul, Team Blake’s Season 2 winner. When Wetpaint Entertainment spoke with the Nicole today, she shared some details on her connection with the past winner.
“I didn’t even know about the show until Jermaine got on it,” Nicole admitted. “So I started watching it online and I was like, ‘Oh, this show is good.’ You know, I think American Idol might be one of the reasons why I decided to not watch television anymore, but I fell in love with [The Voice] through him.”
But why would a self-proclaimed hippie, who strives to stay away from anything outside of her pure lifestyle, come to Los Angeles to be on one of TV’s top shows?
“I live a comfortable, beautiful life, but my parents are getting older and they’re not well,” Nicole said. “They’re on disability and I thought, ‘Man, if I could buy my parents a house, that would be amazing. How do I do that?’ And then that thought led to [realizing] I need millions of people to hear me.”
Nicole’s close-knit relationship with her family has always been a big part of her life. She lost her older brother at the age of 15 after he suffered a heart attack from his asthma medication — a traumatic experience which ultimately inspired her organic lifestyle.
“I felt very passionate about finding a way to take my fear of death and my mourning to turning that into leading a happier, healthier life,” she said.
Hopefully this peaceful way of life will help her to focus on the battle rounds ahead. What do you think of Nicole’s sound and journey? Tell us below!
