Who Is Jacob Artist? 5 Things to Know About Glee’s New Bad Boy, Jake

The McKinley High glee club is getting a new bad boy when Glee returns for Season 4 this fall. He may be Puck’s (Mark Salling) younger half brother, but don’t expect this new guy to be a carbon copy of his big bro. (Was Puck a super-skilled dancer? We didn’t think so.)

But just who is Jacob Artist, the 19-year-old actor who will be bringing Jake Puckerman to life on-screen? Here are five things you need to know.

Brittany Pierce better watch her back — Jacob’s a dancer, too.

Mike (Harry Shum Jr.) may have graduated and moved on from McKinley, but luckily there are plenty of new dancers to help fill that void. We know that Glee is casting a bratty new mean girl who will be an expert dancer, and Jacob has some pretty serious moves of his own! He’s studied dance every since he was young. Personally, we’re hoping that Jake just might be McKinley’s answer to Channing Tatum circa Step Up. Anybody else with us?

Jacob plays the role of Parker in the 2012 movie, The Philosophers, a fantasy thriller that film stars Harry Potter’s Bonnie Wright and Spy Kids’ Daryl Sabara. For the record, Jacob appears to be a big Harry Potter fan.

#StillWaitingForMyLetterBTW” he tweeted last month, after noting that the first Potter movie was playing on TV. “#MuggleBoyProblems

You’ve seen him on TV before!

If you’re a fan of Nickelodeon, Jake has played Dean Hollis on multiple episodes of the Nick hit How to Rock. He also appeared in an episode of ABC Family’s Melissa and Joey though not the same episode that The Glee Project’s Blake Jenner was in, sadly — and a TV movie called Blue Lagoon: The Awakening.

If you’re following Jacob on Twitter @JacobArtist, you’ll notice that he’s tweeted more than a few times about his love for the Ryan Murphy horror show. Jessica Lange certainly appears to be his favorite person on the show. Hmm, now that Jacob’s on a Ryan Murphy show of his own, perhaps he can convince his boss to arrange a little meeting?

His Glee character is going to be “vastly” different than anyone you’ve seen before.

When Producer Ian Brennan was at Comic-Con earlier this month, he told The Hollywood Reporter that Puck’s brother is going to be “vastly different from any character we've had on the show in a really interesting and surprising way.” We have no idea what this interesting and surprising twist might entail, but we can’t wait to find out. Can’t September 13 just get here already?
