Gilles himself is the first to admit that he doesn’t really have much to back up his frontrunner status. “They say ‘the frontrunner!’ — something which just makes me laugh,” he tells AccessHollywood.com. “It makes me laugh because [Peta] clearly sees every day it takes me like six hours to do one-eighth [of a routine].”
Gilles, who won 2nd place to fellow All-Stars competitor Shawn Johnson in Season 8, is clearly an excellent and skilled dancer, so we doubt that he’s really taking forever to learn the foxtrot again (He’ll be dancing a foxtrot and a jive in Week 1.)
As humble as Gilles is, we have a feeling that his modesty is part of his own game plan. By downplaying his abilities, his competitors will stop thinking of him as serious competition.
But Gilles thinks his real intimidation factor is Peta. “I get it. I have Peta,” he says. “It’s going to be fun.” Hopefully not too much fun. He will have Peta’s boyfriend Maksim Chmerkovskiy looking over his shoulder!
