Helio and Julianne Hough won the fall 2007 season. Their best dance was probably their iconic Quickstep to "Hey Pachuco" from the movie The Mask, where Helio wore a bright yellow zoot suit. Now, he’s hinted that he might bring it back for Season 15 All-Stars. "I think that's going to be the key to me winning again," Helio joked in an IndyCar press release (via Motorsport.com).
Another key may be his new motivation — his daughter, Mikaella, now age two-and-a-half, who was born in December of 2009. “What a great thing to show my daughter, what Dad did five years ago and hopefully can do again,” he said in the Motorsport release, adding to IndyCar.com, “That would be great for my daughter to see."
Helio is now partnered with DWTS pro Chelsie Hightower and their first dance, which we’ll see during Monday’s premiere, is the Foxtrot. "Chelsie is a very talented dancer and I’m fortunate to have a partner that I’m going to have fun with,” Helio told IndyCar. “She is tough, though, in the dance studio. I told her that whatever you do I’ll follow your lead even though I know the man leads when dancing.”
As we speculated in our pre-season finale prediction, Helio may be the naturally gifted partner Chelsie’s been waiting for to take her to the finals for the first time. He’s proven he can win — especially with a pretty, talented young blonde at his side. And she’s proven she can get great results from people who started at a much lower level. (Remember Season 8’s Ty Murray? He almost made the finals.)
