Kasey Kahl Sues TMZ For “False” Report That He Huffed Paint Thinner
Remember when Bachelorette contestant Kasey Kahl was arrested for allegedly huffing paint thinner last month? Those were troubling times for all of us. TMZ originally reported Kasey's sordid tale, and in case you've blocked it out (why, Kasey? Why?), here's a refresher.
On January 15, Kasey was charged with multiple felonies after allegedly attacking two people at a Club Habano's while drunk and high. Months later, prosecutors decided to charge him with 2 counts of felony assault, 1 count of battery with serious bodily injury, and 1 count of public intoxication. Kasey was reported to have toluene in his system at the time of the attack, which is often in paint thinners.
According to TMZ's story, Kasey was hauled to an Orange County jail and faced up to 8 years in the clink! Now, our boy Kasey is fighting back, and has taken TMZ to court for defamation of character.
Despite the fact that TMZ updated their story with an amendment ("Law enforcement sources tell us ... there was an error on the charging document ... and it should NOT have stated that Kahl was suspected of being under the influence of toluene"), Kasey wants $20 million for libel and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Cha-ching!
Kasey's complaint is as follows: "Defendants' statements forever falsely taint and permanently damage Kahl, in the eyes of the media, friends, family, fans, and the general public, as a person engaged in the taboo, socially unacceptable, unlawful action of 'huffing' paint thinners. Media will forever mention his name in the context of huffing paint and fans will forever remember Kahl with ill repute rather than remember his accomplishments in and out of the spotlight."
Aww, Kasey! We have nothing but love for you — despite the fact that The TMZ Sorting Hat thinks you belong in House Hufflepuff.
