The Voice’s Melanie Martinez on Why Christina Aguilera Didn’t Turn and How She Hitchhiked to the Blind Auditions!

Last night’s episode of blind auditions on The Voice Season 3 started off with an entrancing performance by contestant Melanie Martinez. But what many don’t know is that Melanie almost didn’t make it in time to take the stage.

Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the Baldwin, N.Y. native today when she shared why she almost missed her blind audition.

“My car actually broke down, and we were running late,” Melanie revealed. “I was with my dad and my mom, and I’m really glad that both of them were there because I had to have a guardian with me. My dad ended up staying there with the car, and me and my mom had to hitchhike a taxi. I actually made it just on time.”

Phew! We’re certainly glad Melanie made it because her rendition of Britney Spears’s “Toxic” had many of us perking up our ears and the judges turning their chairs with one notable exception.

Britney’s former nemesis Christina Aguilera was the only judge not to turn for the contestant in last night’s episode. Many have said Xtina’s reasoning was more related to Melanie’s song choice than her vocal ability, but the contestant disagrees.

“I think it was more of the fact that I have a softer voice,” she said. “I kind of figured that she wouldn’t turn for me because I wasn’t a power singer and usually that’s what she sticks to.”

Hmm, we beg to differ. Have you heard of one Ms. Lindsey Pavao, Melanie?

What do you guys think? Did Christina not turn because of Melanie’s song choice or sound? Tell us below!
