However, the Golden Globe-nominated 20-year-old actress doesn’t look at it that way.
"This past year's been a total whirlwind, and I haven't really had time to stop and analyze it," Shailene told Variety. "It's no overnight success. I started off doing commercials and TV when I was just 5 … and it took me 15 years to get to The Descendants.”
During Secret Life’s hiatus, she is keeping busy, though. She recently wrapped The Spectacular Now with Revenge’s mama, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Friday Night Lights’ Kyle Chandler, and was the first to sign onto director Gregg Araki’s White Bird.
And this low volume of projects doesn’t stem from lack of talent — the actress admits that she’s picky about her scripts. Instead of doing half a dozen films per year like many young actresses, she chooses quality over quantity.
“You can get a ton of offers, but the script has to be there, and I really respond to movies that make me feel,” she said. “If I'm not passionate about a project, I'm not going to do it, regardless of who's involved."
But as for the next step in her career? She doesn’t have a clue.
“[I have] no real career plan,” Shai admitted, although she knows movies will be her main focus. "They're my real passion.”
