Jennifer Lawrence Has Reason to Celebrate This Weekend’s Box Office — For Now
As Jennifer Lawrence is learning, not every movie can be as successful as The Hunger Games.
Her newest movie, The House at the End of the Street, debuted yesterday and was the day's highest-grossing film. It beat out other newcomers such as Jake Gyllenhaal's End of Watch (so many movies with "end" in the title!) and Clint Eastwood's Trouble with the Curve.
However, horror movies tend to open big on Friday nights but lag as the rest of the weekend progresses, and so analysts are predicting House at the End of the Street to fall back to second or third place for the overall weekend with only about $12.5 million.
By contrast, the opening weekend of The Hunger Games was $211.8 million. We're not mathematicians, but we're thinking that number is slightly bigger than House's.
