Grey's Anatomy

How Did Grey’s Anatomy’s Jessica Capshaw Respond to Kevin McKidd’s Twitter Spoiler Slip-Up?

The Grey's Anatomy cast and crew tried very hard to keep Arizona's (Jessica Capshaw) controversial fate a secret leading up to the Grey's Anatomy Season 9 premiere (Season 9, Episode 1: "Going, Going, Gone"). During the episode itself, the writers hinted that Arizona died in the plane crash at the end of Season 8, though it was revealed at the end that she "only" lost her leg.

However, many spoiler-lovers weren't fooled by the death fake-out, and it's kind of Kevin McKidd's (Owen Hunt) fault (though we love him for it).

A few weeks before the premiere, Kevin enthusiastically tweeted a photo from the episode he's directing, Season 9, Episode 4: "I Saw Her Standing There." The problem? The photo showed Arizona alive (though it didn't give away the twist about her leg). Kevin quickly removed the photo, but the damage was done: fans had already saved it. Once something like that is on the internet, there's no going back.

Jessica Capshaw totally gets that. When a fan recently asked Jessica via Twitter, "What was you[r] initial thought when Kevin McKidd posted a pic of you during in a scene for Season 9?," Jessica replied, "Uh-oh."

We know Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd) got in trouble over tweeting a similarly spoiler-ific photo of Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) in a hospital bed. We hope Kevin was spared the wrath of Shonda (not to mention the network Powers That Be) over an honest mistake.

Catch the next new episode of Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, October 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
