Glee’s Lea Michele Was Told That She “Wasn’t Right For TV”
Lea Michele (Rachel) is so amazing and stunningly beautiful on Glee that it’s hard to believe she was once told that she told by people in the industry that she didn’t have what it takes for TV. Good thing she didn’t listen!
Lea appears on this month’s cover of Marie Claire UK, and the Glee star tells the magazine that she had to push through some harsh feedback early in her career. “I was told by agents and casting directors I wasn't right for TV,” she says. “I didn't feel that, but I was told it and you believe it.”
She says that she was getting theatre work at the time, but she was striking out when it came to getting on TV — even in tiny roles! “I was always working on Broadway and auditioning for TV — things like Law & Order— but there was never anything,” she admits.
Lucky for us, Glee changed all that, as the show has even helped how Lea feels about herself. "Glee has made me feel beautiful,” she says. “Now when people say that, I don't feel like they're lying. What I love about our show is that it opens your eyes to a lot of things without being preachy."
Lea also tells the publication that she would love seeing Kevin McHale (Artie) as the host of The X Factor, given that she really respects Kevin’s knowledge of music. “Anytime I’m recording a song for Glee, I always go to Kevin for his advice,” she says. Coming from someone as talented as Lea, we’d say that’s high praise!
