On Tuesday, October 2, Gaga stepped out in Milan in a barely-there Versace gown held together by safety pins. It takes a fearless lady to don a dress that shows off that much skin, but surprisingly, Gaga wasn’t the first to wear the thigh-high slit number.
Back in 1994, Elizabeth Hurley was transformed from the relatively unknown girlfriend of Hugh Grant into an instant sex symbol when she attended the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral in what’s commonly referred to as “The Safety Pin Dress.” Hurley became an overnight sensation, and the Versace gown earned itself a spot among the most iconic dresses of all time. (It even has its own Wikipedia page!)
Of course, Lady G put her own unique spin on the look, amping up the edge with talon-like nails and a pair of seriously high lace-up platform boots. What do you think of Gaga’s bold ensemble? Is she dazzlingly daring, or is this much too much... even for her?
