Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 2 Promo Breakdown: Regina’s Powers, Memory Loss, and More

Oh, Canada. How we love our neighbors to the north. Why? Because Canadian TV has the best episode promos, that's why! And the Canadian promo for Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 2: “We Are Both” does not disappoint.

In fact, it gives us so much info that we feel the need to dissect it, scene-by-scene. Sound like fun? Then read on!

Charming's mission: David Nolan/Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) remains determined to get Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Mary Margaret/Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) back from Fairytale Land. As if anyone is surprised. But who's grabbing him by the shirt, and why? It looks like Regina (Lana Parrilla) to us, but we could be wrong.

Gold smash! Why is Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) smashing up his own shop? It seems like he's angry. More problems with Belle (Emilie de Ravin), perhaps?

Jefferson's back: Jefferson (Sebastian Stan)! Hi Jefferson! Good to see you're still hot. Our fave hatter tells Charming that Emma and Snow are in the enchanted forest — but he can't help Charming get there. Is he having trouble making his magic work, too?

Regina and the magic book: We see Regina handling the book of spells. Will she be able to make them work? We're guessing her attempts to regain magic in Storybrooke will parallel the flashbacks, which we know are about her learning magic in Fairytale Land.

Henry's sacrifice: It looks like Regina does get her powers under control, at least somewhat, as she appears to fling doors open magically, intruding on a gathering of the townsfolk. Certainly everyone is scared of her again. The entire group gasps when she appears, and then Henry (Jared Gilmore) marches forward, saying, "She wants me. I'll come with you, just leave them alone."

When you leave Storybrooke... As we learn in this sneak peek of the episode, the townsfolk can't leave Storybrooke just because the curse is broken. If they do, they lose their Fairytale Land memories, as poor Sneezy (Gabe Khouth) learns. As Charming puts it: "It looks like we're stuck here."

Also of note: Mr. Gold asks Charming what happens when people leave town. Since when does he not know things like that? We'd suspect him of lying, but he sounds genuinely curious. Is this a side-effect of the curse he didn't expect? It seems like the point of the curse was to get him to our world to find his son, Baelfire, and he even mentioned preparing to leave the town at the end of Season 1, so we're thinking he's going to be as unhappy about this development as everyone else.
