Glee Season 4: Blake Jenner’s Ryder Will Struggle in School Because He’s [Spoiler]
We’re learning more about Ryder Lynn, who will be played by Glee Project winner Blake Jenner, and he’s definitely sounding like someone we haven’t seen on the show before. Get excited, people!
Ryan Murphy tells Inquirer Entertainment that Ryder — who joins the show in Episode 5— will allow Glee to touch upon a learning disability in more depth than it has before. “Blake Jenner’s character is a really great athlete, but he is having trouble in his class work,” Ryan explains. “What we reveal is that he has dyslexia, which is something we’ve never written about.”
Ryan says that it’s important to address this issue and to help inspire the real-life students out there who have to deal with it. “So many kids across the world will relate to his struggle to have victory over dyslexia,” he says.
Blake points out that singing will be a new thing for Ryder. “He’s never sang in his life,” Blake says about his character. “He falls into the glee club by accident.” Wait, Ryder has never sang in his life — like, ever? Not even “Happy Birthday To You” at friends’ birthday parties? C’mon, Ryder — that song brings people hope for the upcoming year!
Plus, there just might be other secrets that will be revealed about Ryder’s past. “You don’t know his vulnerabilities at first but, as time goes on, people will definitely learn of the skeletons in his closet and what he’s hiding as a person,” according to Blake.
Consider us very intrigued. If only we didn’t have to wait until November 8th for Episode 5 to finally get here so we can meet the guy!
