Is Ashley Davenport a Victim or Villain on Revenge?
Despite her to-die-for outfits and ability to morph from party planner to spokeswoman, Revengers of all ages seem dead set against young Ashley Davenport.
Yes, the girl’s a ladder-climber with more ambition than the kids in Fame, but does that make her a villain? She worked her manicured nails to the bone last season, and Victoria Grayson barely even glanced her way.
She was the one to introduce Emily to Daniel, and Ems quickly rose to the top of the socialite ladder while Ashley cleaned up after her. So why do we come down on this fashionable Brit?
Actress Ashley Madekwe was wondering the same thing. When the premiere aired this Sunday, she took to Twitter to ask:
I see far more negative reaction to Ashley then I do Daniel. Aren't they both guilty of the same crime? Double standard? I love TV! #Revenge
Sure, Ashley was Emily’s friend, but Emily screwed up her plans of arranging the wedding — an event which could have really boosted her friend’s career. And now that Daniel’s no longer the innocent school boy who started the show, isn’t he just as much to blame for the couple’s disastrous relationship?
Ash is merely guilty of intelligence and using every means possible to get to the top. It’s not the most glamorous or heroic strategy, but chances are, it will get her where she needs to go much faster.
