One character we expect to see especially affected is Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), Mark's protege. But how will his mentor's untimely demise affect this star student? Here are three things we'd love to see from Jackson this season in the wake of Mark's death.
1. The student becomes the master. We'd love to see Jackson step it up as a surgeon, really taking this time to shine now that the Seattle Grace-Mercy West plastics master is gone. We already had hints that he was growing confident in his own skills and judgement duringSeason 9, Episode 1: "Going, Going, Gone," and it sounds like we might be in for more.
2. Work things out with April. Will Mark's speech to Jackson about love prompt him to make another move with April (Sarah Drew)? It looks like it. Whether they get together permanently or decide they're better off friends, we just want Jackson and April to face their feelings head on, instead of dancing around them all the time.
3. Help Callie. We have no idea if the writers have any intention of doing this, but, personally, we think it would be cool if Jackson started trying to help out Callie (Sara Ramirez), who has a lot on her plate, what with Arizona's (Jessica Capshaw) leg situation. We'd love it if Jackson perhaps took on some babysitting duties. He could honor his old mentor by caring for his kid, while also helping lesson Callie's burden when she's busy.
