Nicole Scherzinger Opens up About Her Eating Disorder: “My Bulimia Was My Addiction”

Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger had all sorts of confessions to make during VH1’s Behind the Music last night.

On the special, the Dancing With the Stars Season 10 winner fessed up to the fact that she “probably did 95 percent” of the singing on her girl group’s first album, providing both lead and backup vocals. But an even more shocking revelation occurred when Nicole opened up about her 8-year struggle with bulimia.

The former X Factor host said that she first developed bulimia after performing with the Pussycat Dolls in 2003, a time in which she was encouraged to wear next to nothing on stage.

“I’d come back to my room and I’d be alone, so I would just do things,” she told the show. “My bulimia was my addiction. Hurting myself was my addiction.”

The 34-year-old singer admitted she had been embarrassed to talk about her disorder and feared putting a burden on those who loved her most.

“I never spoke about it. Like I said, I never want to play a victim, and I never wanted my family to hear about things from me because I think it would break their heart, you know?” she said. “I really was so disgusted with myself. I hated myself. I never felt so alone in my life.”
