Jersey Shore

Jersey Shore Creator SallyAnn Salsano Reveals What It’s Like to Film Snooki’s Baby Lorenzo- Exclusive

The cast of Jersey Shore have become so close that it’s hard to remember they were once complete strangers. Back in 2009 when Jersey Shore filmed its very first season, Snooki, The Situation, JWOWW, Pauly D, Vinny, Ronnie, and Sammi were just unknown, broke, regular people like us. Until Jersey Shore creator and owner of 495 Productions SallyAnn Salsano noticed them, that is.

Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the genius behind the show that has changed reality TV forever on October 4 at the Jersey Shore Season 6 premiere party in New York. SallyAnn spoke to us about baby Lorenzo LaValle, what’s in store for Snooki & JWOWW Season 2, and her memories of having to buy the castmates cigarettes back when they couldn’t afford to.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Are you sad that Jersey Shore is over?
SallyAnn Salsano: I don’t believe it’s over. I think they’re just f***ing with us. That’s what I tell myself, that’s how I get out of bed. I don’t believe it.

Have you finished filming Snooki & JWOWW Season 2?
It is [finished], I’ve been in Snooki’s garage since January. No, what month is this?

It’s October.
So we got in Snooki’s garage in August, I’ve been in Snooki’s garage since August.

Have you been mostly shooting in Manchester?
Yeah, because Snooki’s living in East Hanover at Jionni’s, and JWOWW’s living in her house, so it’s kind of, they’re two hours apart.

Have you noticed a theme in Season 2?
I gotta tell you, I love it way better than Season 1. There’s so much more laughing, there’s so much more drama, and it’s just good. And you’re seeing them do shit they haven’t done. It’s kind of fun.

What was it like filming with Lorenzo?
I don’t know what I would do if I had that baby. Like, she’s such a good mom. The other day, she’s like, “Can you hold him for a second?” I’m like, “Ahh!” She’s like, “And you make fun of me!” I’m like, “Well, whatever.”

Have the Jersey Shore castmates all stayed the same people since Season 1?
None of them have changed. Listen, it’s easy to get caught up in it, and they go to the red carpet and the press and everyone treats them different and all that stuff, but we don’t. With Season 1, we had to buy them cigarettes and Gatorade because they had no money. So if they ever try and mouth off to us, we’re like, “Shut up.”

What do you think the secret is to finding that magic chemistry with a reality show cast?
I think the secret is casting from within. And I also think it’s how you interact with your cast, and how you shoot your show. And I think that a successful reality show is built on mutual trust. They trust us that we’re going to tell the true story of what’s happening behind the scenes, and we trust them to be who they are and not lie.

What was it like shooting with a sober Situation?
It was so nice for us. There’s this moment at the end of Episode 3 [Season 6, Episode 3: “Toxic Shots Syndrome,” airing October 18] that I was actually showing [my co-workers] from the hospital. Snooki was giving birth, we were watching edits from Jersey Shore. It’s so nice because the old Mike is back. The guy you fell in love with and all that stuff. And I think it’s really awesome.

Do The Situation and Snooki ever make up?
Tune in, it’s in the sixth season.
