Leighton Meester Talks Series Ending: I’m Ready to Move Beyond Gossip Girl
Gossip Girlhas kicked off its final season, and we’re looking forward to all the hijinks — ohhhh, the hijinks!
While the final season of our favorite show spans just 10-episodes, Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf) is ready to move on. "I think it's ending at a beautiful, perfect time," she tells Vulture. "But it's [also] because our contracts are up. I don't think anyone wants to stay after their contracts."
Despite owing "pretty much everything" to Gossip Girl, Leighton says she finds the show "sort of tedious" (say it ain't so!) and adds "It's my personal growth that has made me want to move beyond it. I was 20 when I started, and I'm 26 now, so you don't want to be doing the same thing over a period that long."
Leighton has starred in several successful movies since Gossip Girl's premiere, but the hit show still limits her. "I've been doing Gossip Girl for six years, and the arc is ongoing," she admits. "It's always just tension, tension, tension. Which can be good. But for me, creatively, it starts to get exhausting."
We're all about Leighton broadening her horizons (perhaps she can borrow Blake Lively's traveling pants?), but she'll always be Blair Waldorf to us. Sob, headbands.
