Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 5: What Happens in “The Doctor”?

As most Once Upon a Time fans know, one of the biggest mysteries on the show is Dr. Whale’s (David Anders) identity. And in Season 2, Episode 5: “The Doctor” (airing October 28), rumor has it that we’ll finally get his backstory. So what else happens in the cryptically titled episode?

According to ABC’s official press release, Regina (Lana Parrilla) will “continue to try and stop using her magic in an attempt to win back Henry’s [Jared Gilmore] affections,” while in a flashback to her time in Fairytale Land, she’ll be doing quite the opposite: “failing at learning the dark arts from a dark master because something from her past is preventing her from using her magic for evil.”

Something from Regina’s past will be haunting her both in the past and the present. In Storybrooke, “she begins seeing what she believes is a ghost from her past.” And since Noah Bean (Daniel) is guest-starring in this episode, we predict that Regina will start seeing Daniel around town. In Fairytale Land, perhaps Regina is trying to learn the dark arts from Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle), but memories of her purer self haunt her in the form of Daniel.

It’s worth pointing out that, in ABC’s press release, Noah Bean’s character is described only as “man.” Does this indicate that the Dr. Whale-is-Frankenstein theory will involve Daniel becoming some kind of half-man, half-monster? Or will he simply be a man that Regina thinks she spots in Storybrooke?

Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Emma (Jennifer Morrison) “discover a lone survivor from an ogre massacre,” though it’s unclear whether or not they’ve made it back to Storybrooke at this point. We know from this preview that they’ll be dealing with ogre issues in Season 2, Episode 3: “Lady of the Lake” (airing October 14).

We’ll be watching every minute!
