ABC released astatement clarifying certain parts of their report. Portions of the story indicated Brooks had left his former girlfriend and mother to his youngest son, Joey — Nicolette Catanzarite — with all of the birth-related expenses. 20/20 also reported Brooks had not visited or communicated with the baby since he was five to six months old and that Nicolette had not been able to contact or locate Brooks since 2011.
ABC’s statement clarifies that Brooks’s medical insurance did cover most of his son’s medical expenses related to the birth, though not Nicolette’s. It continues that Brooks last saw his son in the summer of 2010 which means his last contact was at nineteen to twenty months old rather than five or six. Also, as he’sclaimed before, he and Nicolette have been in contact with one another as recently as January, 2012 when she traveled to California to meet with Brooks and Vicki.
Brooks told ABC that he “hopes to resolve his disputes with Nicolette soon.”
He addedon Twitter that the reason he’s not seen his son in two years is that Nicolette is an “uncooperative ‘baby mama.’” Classy dude.
This July, shortly after the report was released,Brooks threatened to file suit against ABC for their shocking 20/20 story, claiming "ABC never gave me a reasonable opportunity to tell my side, and therefore the story, which is based on an interview with an ex-girlfriend, contains many mistakes. I am outraged that ABC should behave in this manner.”
Vicki announced that she and Brooks are “taking time” apart from one another inSeptember.
