The Voice Season 3: Best Performance of the Night From Battle Round 2 on October 9, 2012 (VIDEO)

Though last night’s battle round performances on The Voice Season 3 only gave us one-hour’s worth of content to work with, there were still some pretty impressive duets. We’re not entirely sure why NBC decided to breeze through Celica Westbrook and Rudy Parris’s battle round wins, but not getting to see the entire performance automatically eliminates them from our rankings.

While we loved seeing Cody Belew’s “bam bam” moves and listening to Aquile’s smooth, sultry sound, last night’s best performance definitely has to go to the battle between Caitlin Michele and Melanie Martinez .

Both girls brought their own style to the song “Lights” by Ellie Goulding and offered an alternative sound to a popular tune — or as Blake would call it, “indie.” The judges agreed it was a toss up between the two performers with Caitlin’s bold yet haunting tone and Melanie’s distinctive, breathy quality making it a stellar performance for both.

Ultimately Adam sided with Melanie, but soon after, Caitlin was in the midst of a war between Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green, because both judges wanted to “steal” her for their respective teams. She turned down Blake for the second time, going with the quirky Papa Cee Lo.

We’re glad both contestants made it through and it’s no wonder considering they had the best performance of the night. Do you agree with our winner? Weigh in below!
