What Is Fentanyl, the Drug Amber Portwood Was Using in Treatment?
Teen Mom's Amber Portwood dropped a huge truth bomb during her jailhouse interview with Dr. Drew on Oct. 9: She was addicted to Fentanyl while in drug court — a narcotic so dangerous, it's a miracle she didn't overdose.
Amber admits that she was doing drugs while in treatment, and tells Dr. Drewski, "I started to move to kind of harder drugs. Fentanyl patches … I would go in the mornings to go pee to screen, and I would be chewing on a patch as I was screening. That's when I knew I didn't give a s—."
In case you aren't in the know, Fentanyl is a strong pain reliever that's 100 times more potent than morphine. The effects of recreational Fentanyl use is similar to heroin (with euphoric highs and devastating lows), so as you might expect the withdrawal is extremely painful.
Amber abused Fentanyl patches, which can be cut up and eaten. Luckily, this gal has been in Therapeutic Community for two months, which is sort of like going to rehab in prison. She talks to Leah and Gary every day, has regular visits with her mom — and best of all, she goes to Narcotics Anonymous four times a week.
We're so happy Amber is getting the help she needs! In the words of Dr. Drew, "all you gotta do is do the do."
