Castle has always provided us with moments that have made us smile, cry, and scream, "I know who did it!” only for the real killer be an arbitrary character from the fifth scene. It happens every flipping time. But it’s the funny moments that keep us coming back for more (and that highly anticipated long, slow kiss). As much as we give credit to the writers, Castle actors deliver lines in a way that have us laughing in our cars or on the subway, even days later. Remember the time Captain Gates actually liked Castle, and it looked like they were going to get along for more than 2.5 seconds? Yeah, those were the good ol' … minutes. Back to reality.
Gates’s storage-unit gift from Castle, one half of a Gemini twin set, came crashing down — literally — when Castle smashed it to pieces. In his defense, he did think Wendell hid a major clue for his twin sister inside. But that happened to be the one Gates brought to her office from home. As it breaks open and nothing is inside, the horror on Beckett’s face sends us to a laughing tizzy.
For some reason, someone’s pain and embarrassment only makes us laugh harder!
Mothers seem to know everything, and Castle’s is no different. While Martha and Castle help Alexis pack up her trinkets for college, Martha wants Castle to have a one-on-one chat with his daughter. What about? The secret relationship that is not so secret. Rick denies it, but gets a hand to the face, like we’re in 1995.
“Save it, Richard. I knew the morning I walked in here, the poor girl was hiding in the … ” Castle fumbles over boxes, he is so mortified. He thought he snuck Beckett out of his loft so well. Turns out mother dearest knew this whole time!
How long was she planning to keep this secret to herself? Maybe she was hoping Castle would bring it up first. Suddenly, we’re reminded of the one time we thought we got away with something, only to have our parents prove us wrong.
1. Take Your What Off Your What?!
Beckett, Esposito, and Ryan pull up outside of Marco Vinstrolli’s van. He stole a safe out of the storage unit, and our crime-fighting gang believe the missing bracelet is inside. We see him, inside, using some kind of saw to try and break in. The trio surround the van and kick open the door. Espo and Ryan yell out the typical police things to say, you know, “NYPD! Put up your hands!” But it’s Beckett’s, "Take your hand off your tool,” that has us rolling on the floor. Even Espo and Ryan laughing.
We must admit, sometimes we have the mind of a teenage boy. And rightly so. That moment was fantastic. Our only questions: How many takes were required to get the shot just right?
