It will be tough: There's no question that her journey will be tough. Jessica Capshaw has called the beginning of the journey "dark and complicated," and Sara Ramirez (Callie Torres) has warned that at this point, she's not sure if the Calzona relationship will even survive. Certainly what's happened to Arizona will have a huge impact on Callie, which we'll see a lot of. Arizona is still struggling to "accept her fate" in Season 9, Episode 4: "I Saw Her Standing There," though at least it looks like she gets out of the house by that point.
But the point is hope: However, it sounds like Arizona will come to accept her fate, and even thrive. Jessica has said it's not a story of defeat, and showrunner Shonda Rhimes has made it very clear that her goal with this story is to show what life is like for the differently abled — and, specifically, to show that disabilities don't have to mean the end of hope or happiness.
As for Calzona: Part of that is showing that the differently abled are perfectly capable of having fun, sexy, romantic times. And yep, that means Calzona is back on ... by "before Valentine's day." So, it could be a while, but there's light at the end of the tunnel.
What do you think of the story Shonda has chosen to tell with Arizona?
