Grey’s Anatomy Spoiler: Derek Turns to Teaching and He’s [SPOILER]!

Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) hand is one of the many uncertainties of Grey's Anatomy’s Season 9. But at least we know that no matter what happens — whether he’s operating or teaching — we will still get to see him in those dark blue scrubs that he wears so well.

Speaking of teaching, TV Guide has an exclusive first look at several photos of Derek doing just that in Season 9, Episode 4: "I Saw Her Standing There" (airing October 25). In the photos, we see Derek leading a class, standing in front of both a white board and one of those wired-up mannequins that the docs love to practice on. He’s serious, he’s smiling … he seems OK. (Go to TV Guide for all the photos.)

And in one of the photos, we can see him being directed by Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt). Talk about a hot moment.

Derek’s hand is still in a brace, but that doesn’t stop him from gesturing. One thing's for certain: He has a lot of knowledge to dispense.

Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) spoke to TV Guide about the future of Derek’s hand, saying, "I don't know if his hand ever will be fully recovered. I don't know if he's ever going to do surgery again, or if it's just sort of like, he can't do surgery right now, I'm not really sure."

Hey, if Derek’s smiling (and wearing scrubs), we’re happy.

Will you be upset if Derek never sees the inside of an OR again? If that’s the case, it’s the OR’s loss as far as we’re concerned.

Catch the next new episode of Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, October 18 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
