“Maybe You Were a Once-Bian” Mark Sloan’s Best Grey’s Anatomy Quotes of All Time
During his time on Grey's Anatomy, Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) was not known for his words. His body? Yes. His talent? Yes. His manwhoreishness? Of course. But that doesn’t mean that we didn’t love his personality as well. After all, he was a great friend (despite his cheating ways), a great boyfriend (to few) and an amazing doctor (to many).
So to honor the steamiest doctor to ever hit television, we want to relive 30 of our favorite memorable Mark quotes. They might not be as sexy as his abs, but they say a lot more (literally and figuratively):
“I'm not a cheater...usually.” Mark’s honesty was only one of the things we loved about him. Others include his hair, his smile, how inappropriate he was, etc. “We're going to have the best life, you and me. You can't die because we're supposed to end up together. We're meant to be.” One of the final things he said to Lexie (Chyler Leigh) before she died.
“You will never, ever find another friend as good as me.” Mark said this to Derek (Patrick Dempsey) on McDreamy’s wedding day to Addison (Kate Walsh) in the flashbacks of Season 9, Episode 1: "Going, Going, Gone". We always loved how humble he was. “I've always been in love with you. I'll always be in love with you. Which is why you have to stay alive. We're going to get married. You'll be an amazing surgeon. We'll have kids.” We know. We’re sorry … more of the Lexie goodbye speech. But it was so good!
“I think of it as sexual encouragement.” When April (Sarah Drew) accused him of sexual harassment.
“Knowing you have been with the golden boy of this hospital? That's gotta be killing her.” Mark talking to Callie (Sara Ramirez) about their past sexcapades. Nobody could pull off an ego like Mark Sloan. That gorgeous face and that gorgeous ego … we will miss them both.
“We're hot doctors with babies, they're gonna stare.” You’ve gotta admit it, Derek (Patrick Dempsey). He was right.
“It's you and me, the plastics posse. Kicking ass and taking names.” We love that Mark created a nickname for himself and Jackson (Jesse Williams).
“Don't count out Lexie Grey until you meet her. She's smart, she's beautiful, she's perfect.”Swoon.
“Poor, Mr. Green Eyes. Let's not pretend being beautiful's a burden.” Mark said this to Jackson. Hey, at least he spoke the truth. Mark always did know how to work what his mama gave him.
“Not like a weed... like a mighty oak.” He corrected Callie after she said that their child is growing “like a weed” in her uterus. There it was again, that incredibly charming ego.
“I don't want to be the cool uncle. The cool uncle's only cool until the kid's like nine and then the cool uncle's just creepy.” Mark talking to Callie about fathering their unborn child.
“Lex, I'm still in love with you. I tried not be, but it didn't work. And Sloane's gone, there is no baby, and I don't want to sleep around. I want another chance. I'm in love with you … All I'm saying is that you could have a husband.” How did she ever resist him, even if only for a second? And yes, this was during the Lexie-Alex (Justin Chambers) era.
“I know I've only been your father for a short time, but I swear, if you say gimp one more time, I'm gonna slap you.” We wish somebody would’ve slapped Sloane.
“This may be bad timing but I gotta ask. What did that guy have? I mean, he wasn't much to look at. But, you and Steven's and Torres. Tell the truth. Was he... you know... hung?” Speaking to Lexie about George (T.R. Knight) after his funeral, Mark proved that what he lacked in tact, he made up for in bear hugs.
“You think you broke me little Grey? You're the one that put me back together.” And he was a romantic, too.
“You are forbidden fruit. You are twenty-five. You're a fetus.” Mark’s panic to Lexie when he found out that Derek’s mother was coming into town.
“I dunno... maybe you were a ‘once-bian.’” He said this to Callie about her adventures with her sexuality. Their friendship was the BEST.
“Two girls getting nasty and loving it? That's hot. One girl talking about how much it sucked? That's depressing. Wrong! Just wrong.” Meet Mark, ladies and gentleman.
“Well, amazing, right? I pulled a couple of stem cells from the baby in utero. Six weeks later, I have grown skin. Like God.” Did we mention the ego?
“Take off your pants.” It was practically his motto.
“Lookin' ... it sounds much dirtier without the ‘g.’” Everything sounded dirtier when he said it.
“Are there any club activities?” Mark’s response to finding out about the club, Nurses United Against Mark Sloan. The man had a one-track mind.
“I didn't come to Seattle for Addison, I didn't come to Seattle to be chief. I came to Seattle for you, okay? I came to Seattle to get you back... [laughs] I know, I wanna take that back, but now, it's been said.” To Derek in one of our favorite bromance moments.
“I slept with someone. I couldn't hold out. Once a man whore, always a man whore, right?” He was a man whore, but this moment showed his heart when he lied to Addison after finding out she slept with Karev and broke their no-sex-for-thirty-days agreement.
"I'm an easy mark for evil redheads." He knew his weaknesses.
"Well, is this bring a hot blonde to work day? No one told me." If they had told him, we’re sure he could’ve rounded up one or two … or twenty.
"He's my family, Nancy. Plus I needed a change of pace.... Plus I slept with my tennis partner's wife and he bought a gun." Mark told Derek’s mother why he moved to Seattle from New York.
"The Dirty Mistresses Club has rules? Gosh, I didn't think a bunch of dirty mistresses would be a little less uptight about these, uh, rules." We cannot forget that this was the man who created The Dirty Mistresses Club. Members included Mark … and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo).
“All you can do is be brave enough to get out there. You fought. You loved. You lost. Walk tall, Torres.” Mark was always there for Torres, and this might be our favorite pep talk between the two of them. The man could be sincere when he wanted to.
