American Idol

Is This the Real Reason Steven Tyler Didn’t Return to American Idol?

When Steven Tyler announced his departure from American Idol in July, it sounded like he was ready to move on to bigger and better things.

But TMZ reports that the former Idol judge might have been the victim of bad legal dealings.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, Steven is at the center of a lawsuit between Kovac Media Group (the singer’s former personal manager) and his current lawyer, Dina LaPolt. Kovac hired Dina earlier this year to negotiate a new Idol contract for Steven. But the suit claims that the lawyer’s poor tactics — which include disclosing Kovac’s bargaining strategy — cost Steven a potential raise of $6-8 million.

The Aerosmith frontman ultimately chose to leave Idol and also opted to hire Dina and get rid of Kovac. Steven received a severance check from the show, but Kovac claims that it never received its cut of the commission. Kovac is now seeking $8 million from Dina in the suit.

Although Steven isn’t specifically named in the court documents, sources say that he’s most definitely the artist caught in the middle of the case.
