The Vampire Diaries

Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 1, “Growing Pains” Top 6 OMG Moments

We love those moments on The Vampire Diaries that make us gasp, pause, and rewind — and the fourth season premiere, “Growing Pains,” is chock full of them. Here are the scenes that left our jaws agape.

6. Caroline and Ty reunite (almost)
What do you do after the man you thought was dead saves you from a bunch of vampire slayers? If you’re Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola), you, ahem, press the flesh. In the woods. In broad daylight. Up against a tree.

After her rescue, Caroline goes buck wild on the man she thinks is Tyler (Michael Trevino). “I never thought I’d see you again,” she says. “I don’t get it. How are you alive?” She doesn’t let him answer. She rips off his clothes and kisses him passionately, pausing only to disrobe herself. But then the OV wearing Tyler’s body speaks and ruins it all. “Easy love,” Klaus (Joseph Morgan) says. “Wrong time. Wrong place. Wrong equipment.” Car continues to kiss him. But 30 seconds later it hits her. “Did you just call me ‘love’?” she asks. Yes he did, Blondie. Drats.

5. Bonnie takes yet another one for the team
In an attempt to save Elena (Nina Dobrev) from a vampire life, Bonnie (Kat Graham) taps into some seriously dark magic. When she does it the first time (this season), Grams appears and warns her, saying, “[Elena] is not your problem to solve.” And, believe it or not, Bon-Bon listens. But Klaus wouldn’t let her obey. A few hours later, the Original vamp forces her to repeat the dark chants and transfer his devilish soul back to his evil body. Bonnie holds Klaus-Ty’s head and does as the black magic. Before she finishes, Grams appears again and grabs her hands. “You made your choice; now they’re taking it out on me.” Grams starts to scream in physical pain. Bonnie echoes her cries as she is forced to watch her grandmother die again. Poor Bonnie. How much more can the sole witch of Mystic Falls give?

4. Elena Remembers
Apparently vampire transitions set the truth free. After what would become her last human dinner with Stefan (Paul Wesley), Elena walks up to her bedroom and steps back in time, to the movie of a life she doesn’t remember living. Stunned, she watches the Damon (Ian Somerhalder) of yore not only confess his love to the girl she was a year ago (in Season 2, Episode 8, “Rose,” to be exact), but he also did a truly noble act.

“I can’t be selfish with you… I don’t deserve you,” yesteryear Damon says. “But my brother does.” The elder Salvatore then looked into Younger Elena’s eyes and wiped the memory of his heartfelt confession from her mind.

3. Rebekah spills Elena’s blood
Eternally wounded after Klaus, once again, treats her like a paper napkin, the Original sister stands in front of her big brother, crying. Rebekah (Claire Holt) holds the two remaining bags of Elena’s human blood in each hand. “You want your family? Here’s your family,” she says as she squeezes the bags and sprays the hybrid-making blood onto the floor. Klaus pounces on her immediately. “From this moment on, you’re not my family,” he sneers, holding her by the neck. “You’re not my sister. You. Are. Nothing.” And with that, the psychotic hybrid breaks his little sister’s neck and storms out.

2. Elena feeds for the first time
And she does it with the help of — believe it or not — Rebekah. Literally starving to death, a pale, hoarse, and weakened Elena passes out. After she does, Rebekah pretends to try to bribe a guard. When he turns her down, she lunges at him, fangs bared. The slayer jumps back against Stefan’s cell, where Elena’s boyfriend grabs him and bashes his head against the bars. Stef then drops the man’s bleeding corpse and calls out, “Elena. Elena?” After a beat, our girl wakes and squeezes between the bars, arm outstretched, reaching for the crimson tide. With much-labored effort, Elena finally dips her fingertips in the blood, then raises them to her lips. Her first is not a gourmet meal. But it will do.

1. Pastor Young disbands the Founder’s Council
The good reverend has that look in his eyes as he disconnects the gas line from the stove and locks the front door. “Fear not. For I have been chosen to lead us in the movement,” Pastor Young tells the assembled Founder’s Council members. “Hear me loved ones. Soon you’ll be free to pass through the gates and we will all be united for eternity.”

Before his fellow council members can ask WTH, Young declares, “Friends, we are the beginning” then flicks his lighter, igniting the gas that will scorch the Founder’s Council members off the face of the earth. Consider this meeting adjourned.
