Lauren Conrad Says The Hills Was Totally Real (Most of the Time)
The Hills may have been one of the best/worst example of faux-reality TV — a fact to which the series finale alluded with it’s final zoom-out — but star Lauren Conrad says it’s actually closer to fact than we might think.
“I think the story they told wasn't a dishonest one,” Lauren tells Allure. “The way they did it sometimes was. They aren't going to be there for everything. Sometimes two of their main characters will get into a fight, and that's important to the story line. The [producers] need that reenacted.”
Lauren also reveals that she and Brody Jenner did date, though the length of the relationship was exaggerated by clever editing.
Lauren admits that she understands the public’s lack of respect for her, as someone who became famous for no clear reason. “People felt that a lot of the things I had were undeserved, maybe because I didn't have a specific talent. I was more of a regular girl and maybe didn't deserve the attention.”
Since leaving the show, Lauren actually filmed another MTV pilot which followed her fashion career. She is also the author of young-adult novels like L.A. Candy and The Fame Game.
