Dancing With The Stars

Mark Ballas: Bristol Palin Wasn’t Willing to Take Risks on DWTS All-Stars

This week, Dancing With the Stars celeb Sabrina Bryan dressed like a cross between Cookie Monster and Big Bird. Sixty-one-year-old Kirstie Alley did a cartwheel. Football legend Emmitt Smith was a sexy leading man. Shawn Johnson was an even sexier young woman. New mom Melissa Rycroft did lift after trick after lift. To stand out on All-Stars, you have to be willing to get uncomfortable sometimes and just go there. But Bristol Palin wasn’t really willing to go there.

Mark Ballas talked to People after his and Bristol's elimination from Season 15, Week 4. He said he was dead serious about dressing up as animals for their Rock & Roll dance — and even though we weren't quite down with that idea (remember the gorillas on Season 11!), Mark does think taking a risk like that could've helped them stick around.

"At the end of the day, [the celebrities] have to be comfortable when they walk on stage," Mark told People, repeating his "you can guide a horse to water but you can't make them drink" ethos, used on Bristol during their Week 3 argument. “The problem is, though, with doing that, this is the all-star season, so we have a lot of champions and a lot of finalists, so all of these people are really open-minded."

Mark said he’s still proud of Bristol, but she wasn’t as willing to dance outside the box as the other celebs. As he added to E! News, "I really tried my best here. There's not much more I could have done." Don’t worry, Mark, we know.
