While the Sookster is a quick thinker who can get out of sticky situations on the fly, we’ve never seen her solve a math problem, and not-so-surprisingly, the same goes for her portrayer, Anna Paquin. But in Anna’s case, it was easy to track down her school history.
Even though she won an Oscar at age 11 for The Piano, Anna never studied acting professionally — she’s just that good! After graduating high school, she headed to Columbia University in New York City for a year before taking a leave of absence to continue her acting career, aka filming her iconic role as Rogue in X-Men.
But will our favorite faerie ever hit the books again? Probably not. But only because she knew what she wanted to do without a formal education.
“I had done my first year of college straight out of high school, and I had the best time. I didn't work [on any films], and it was the first time I hadn't worked since I started,“ she told A.V. Club back in 2008. “Then the second year came around, and everyone was getting more specific about what they really wanted to do with their lives, and I kind of already knew what I wanted to do with my life … I was more interested in doing my job.”
For her, actually acting was more of an education than anything she could get — even at an Ivy League school.
“I started doing theater, and that in and of itself is like an education as far as being an actor, because I had never done it before, and it's really hard,” she said, ultimately deciding that college is “over, not because I finished, but because I kind of stopped going. I started working a lot and kind of forgot to go back.”
Well, we’re proud of Anna either way, and we’re glad that she ended up on True Blood! Did you know that she went to Columbia? Tell us below!
