Vampire Diaries Logic Fails From Season 4, Episode 1, “Growing Pains”
The Vampire Diaries is a show where witches can bring people back from the dead, vampires kiss humans instead of ripping their throats out, and werewolves have silky smooth chests when they haven’t transformed. And we accept all of this without blinking an eye. Yet it’s the little things that make us scoff and say, “That would never happen.” Check out the biggest logic fails from Season 4, Episode 1, “Growing Pains.”
1. Who’s in charge? What kind of town is this? The Founder’s Council seems to have the ultimate authority not only over the police and the mayor but the hospital as well? And they’re just now getting their act together?
2. Why did the Council keep all those vampires around? As Pastor Young explained it, the Council was holding on to Elena (Nina Dobrev), Stefan (Paul Wesley), and Rebekah (Claire Holt) to draw Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) out of hiding. But couldn’t they have just killed Stefan and used Elena as bait? Having two vamps locked up — even while breathing vervain vapors — really just increased their chance of escaping. And look what happened.
3. Speaking of escape... How did Elena get out of her cage? Did her sudden surge in vamp strength help her bust through the iron bars? Maybe she chewed through them with her new fangs?
4. Klaus’s witchy fit We love Klaus as much as the next psychopathophile, but when he started clawing into Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) chest, that crossed a line. You do not mess with those muscles. And while Bonnie (Kat Graham) promised it was no more Ms. Nice Witch in the Season 3 finale, she gave into his demands and vague “I might have a witch... somewhere” threats right quick. What was he gonna do? Have this mystery witch conduct the spell via cell phone?
