Britney Spears Crystal Meth Allegations: Ex-Manager Cries Foul in Lawsuit
Britney Spears is in the middle of a legal firestorm once again: The star’s ex-manager Sam Lufti is suing the X Factor star and her parents on a variety of damning charges, including drug use, libel, and physical altercations.
Sam claims Britney didn’t pay him 15 percent of her earnings as she promised during his eight-month tenure as her manager (starting in the summer of 2007); that Britney’s mother, Lynne, printed libelous claims about him in her book, Through the Storm; and that Britney’s father, Jamie, punched him in the chest.
In the start of the trial yesterday (October 18, 2012) in Los Angeles, Sam’s attorney said that Sam only agreed to be Britney’s manager if she stayed clean and said that he “spent 24 hours a day to prevent Britney from using drugs.” He played a video in which Sam begs Britney to see a psychiatrist as Brit sits on the curb outside her LA mansion and added that Jamie punched Sam the next day.
Sam later used drug-sniffing dogs to find a bag of white powder in Britney’s car that she admitted was crystal meth, the attorney stated.
He also said that Britney told Sam that she shaved her head so that no evidence of drug use could endanger the custody she had of her kids.
Sam was the mediator between Britney and her parents, the attorney said — though Lynne wrote in her book that Sam cut phone lines in Britney’s house, disabled her cars, and tried to drug her. These allegations “deliberately distorted [Sam’s] reputation,” he said.
For the record, the Spears family got a judge to issue a restraining order against Sam in 2009.
The Spears’s counsel will present their opening arguments today.
