Pretty Little Liars Burning Question: Is Alison’s Twin in the Halloween Episode?

As if there wasn’t enough excitement surrounding the Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode (Season 3, Episode 13: “This Is a Dark Ride”, airing October 23), a brand new mystery will begin — and it has to do with Alison (Sasha Pieterse).

Pretty Little Liars showrunner Marlene King recently joked on Twitter that she’d have to check into Radley Sanitarium, because of all the work she’s doing on the final episodes of Season 3. A fan suggested that she stay next to Mona (Janel Parrish), and Marlene replied, “and possibley [sic] another there too. Hint hint.”

As fans of the books know, Alison’s twin Courtney had been sent to Radley Sanitarium after she tried to kill her sister when they were little. Courtney then escaped from Radley, and pretended to be Alison, thereby getting the real Ali sent back to Radley. As Courtney befriended the Liars (who all still believed she was Alison), Alison executed a plan to kill Courtney for everything she’d done. Thus, everyone thinks Alison is dead, when really, it’s Courtney in the coffin and Ali is still alive.

Is Marlene “hint hint”ing that either Alison or her twin, who were both patients at Radley as far as the books are concerned, is still there?

In a separate interview with Sasha Pieterse, she confirms that Alison is “definitely” in the Halloween episode, and that “we see a new suspect.” This new suspect is someone who had a “secret past” with Ali. Sasha told “You will see this kind of new dimension and you look at Ali in a totally different way … They might hate [Ali] a little bit, but they might hate this other person more.”

Aside from Jenna (Tammin Sursok), possibly, who else could fit this “new suspect” role better than Ali’s true nemesis: her twin Courtney? Also, if the show follows the books’ story, then we wouldwind up with new sympathy for Ali, who was actually tortured by her evil twin.

What do you think? Do the clues add up?
