Chevy Chase Uses N-Word in Protest Against Bigoted Community Character

Should Chevy Chase quit NBC’s Community? He's been outspoken in his disappointment about the direction of his bigoted character, Pierce, but he just keeps sticking around anyway. (And the show doesn't seem to want to change the character, so ... something has to give!)

Deadline reported that Chevy had another on-set outburst on Friday when he was given more lines that he found offensive. According to the story, Chevy said the way things were headed with his character, he might next be asked to call Troy (Donald Glover) or Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) the n-word. His outburst reportedly upset the cast and he apologized.

Chevy is a passionate guy and at least he was standing up to The Powers That Be for a good reason — wanting to see a less racist side to his character. It's not like he was being a diva, he just probably shouldn’t have used such a loaded word to prove his point. That said, if he's really so unhappy, why not just leave? He must have plenty of money by now, and the show could probably go on fine without him. Yeah, he loves the cast, but if he really wants to protest the direction of his character, he could just boycott the guy completely.
