Don’t Trust the B— in Apt. 23 Season 2 Spoilers: James Van Der Beek Reveals the “Most Wrong” Episode — Exclusive
James Van Der Beek is making us (almost) forget that he played the titular character in Dawson’s Creek by playing an even more memorable character on ABC’s Don’t Trust the B— in Apt. 23: himself... but an exaggerated, extreme parody of himself who often steals the show out from under stars Krysten Ritter (Chloe) and Dreama Walker (June).
Wetpaint Entertainment chatted with James to get some scoop about Season 2 — which premieres tonight — at a New York City premiere party last night (October 22), hosted by Vulture.com, Diet Dr. Pepper, and Ultimat Vodka.
James hyped up the mini-Dawson’s Creek reunion on tonight’s episode — which brings his former co-star Busy Philipps into the mix. “It ends with an explosion, I can tell you that,” the actor teases.
The premiere also features two other ‘90s TV stars, Saved by the Bell’s Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Malcolm in the Middle’s Frankie Muniz, but we’re hoping that the writers will bring even more actors to play themselves... maybe even the rest of the Dawson’s Creek cast. (After all, Joshua Jackson will have free time once Fringe ends this season.)
But James trusts creator Nahnatchka Khan and her staff with those weighty decisions: “I’ll leave that to the writers!”
In the meantime, though, the good news is people are digging the show’s premise and enjoying James’s alter-ego. “They get it,” the 35-year-old says, noting that fans have been greeting him as James more and as Dawson less.
So what outrageous moments can we expect in upcoming episodes? “The Thanksgiving episode is probably the most wrong Thanksgiving episode ever,” the actor says.
And will on-screen James and the “B” herself, Chloe, ever become more than just friends? “Oh, they’ve been there, done that. They’re very comfortable friends. Friends who’ve seen each other naked.”
Season 2 of Don’t Trust the B— in Apt. 23 premieres tonight, October 23, at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
